Tucked just outside Queenstown, Arrowtown is one of those places that somehow feels timeless – tree-lined streets, old stone cottages, mountain views, and cafés you accidentally spend far too long in (not that we’re complaining).

While it might not be somewhere you need a full week to explore, it’s absolutely worth carving out a day or two, especially if you’re in the region for a wedding, honeymoon, or long weekend.

As a team, these are the places we always find ourselves returning to.

Start Slow at Wolf Coffee

Any good Arrowtown day starts with coffee.

Wolf Coffee Roasters is one of our favourite spots for a slow morning. Great coffee, a relaxed atmosphere, and the kind of place where it feels completely acceptable to linger a little longer than planned.

Peruse the Shops 

After coffee, take your time wandering Arrowtown’s historic main street. Pop into boutiques, browse the galleries, or simply enjoy the fact that this is the kind of place where slowing down feels natural.

Dust Off Those Walking Shoes

Just outside town, the Lake Hayes Loop is one of our favourite ways to reset.

The track circles the lake with mountain views the entire way, and while you can absolutely turn it into a proper walk, we think it’s best enjoyed slowly, chatting with friends, stopping for photos, or simply taking in the scenery. Autumn here feels especially magical, but honestly, it’s beautiful year-round.

Or, for one of the best views over Arrowtown, head up Tobins Track.

It’s a steady climb, but one that feels achievable for most people, with sweeping views over the valley and surrounding mountains at the top. We especially love this one in the early morning or late afternoon, when the light hits the hills just right.

Long Lunch at Mora

If we’re choosing somewhere to settle in for a long lunch, it’s usually Mora Wines & Artisan Kitchen.

Set near Lake Hayes, Mora somehow manages to feel elevated without feeling overly formal. Think beautiful seasonal food, great wine, and the kind of atmosphere that encourages you to stay for dessert (and maybe another glass).

It’s the sort of place we’d happily recommend for a relaxed gathering with friends and family during a wedding weekend or simply for a meal that turns into an afternoon.

Where We’d Book Dinner

If we’re staying in Arrowtown for the evening, dinner usually falls into one of a few favourites.

Aosta is always high on the list. Thoughtful food, beautiful interiors, and perfect for celebrating or lingering over a long dinner.

Ayrburn is another favourite amongst both locals and visitors, and we think booking a spot at Billy’s or The Woolshed makes for the perfect evening meal. At the very least, stop in for a drink at The Burr Bar and allow yourself time to wander the grounds. It’s the kind of place where you arrive for one thing and accidentally stay half the day.

We couldn’t not mention… 

Ferg Butcher – We’re fairly sure we’ve worked our way through almost everything on the menu, and somehow it never disappoints.

The Dishery – A gorgeous breakfast or brunch stop.

The Blue Door – A cosy little spot for an evening drink and a classic Arrowtown experience.

Arrowtown may be small, but that’s exactly part of the charm.

Whether you’re visiting for a wedding weekend or simply passing through, these are the places our team keeps coming back to and the ones we think are worth lingering for.
